What can I say - Mother Nature tried to defeat us once again but the racers of our region are saying nothing doing, bring it on. 568 riders lined up in the rain, the mud and the muck to get it done at the South Penn Enduro Riders Skip Stoner Memorial Ox Bo Harescramble.
The Pee Wee racers kicked off the event in the rain on Saturday.

This past weekend took us to the Happy Ramblers Motorcycle Club for Round #3 of the MAMA MX race series. The event kicked off on Saturday with a great battle in the Senior 50 plus race division.
Greg Voell and Mike Farmer battle in the 50 plus year old division.

The rain held for most of the day Saturday but the violent thunderstorms and rain would roll in to once again turn the weekend into a mud fest on Sunday. Just under 100 racers hung in on this Mothers Day Sunday to do what they love most.
Gavin Heath (120) would take three Novice division wins on the weekend.

What a difference a day can make. Saturday we spent a warm sunny day in southern York County hanging out in the woods watching our friends that follow the Mid Atlantic Vintage Trials Series at the White Rose Motorcycle Club. Then overnight the rains came to turn Doublin Gap's Motocross Course into the May Mud Bowl for their MDRA Series race. Never the less a good time was had by all.
Props go out to all the 50cc racers and their parents for getting the job done.

What a weekend for racing in the mid Atlantic region. It seems like every discipline had something going on. From flat track and motocross to harescrambles and of course the 55th running of the Delaware State Championship Enduro.

This past weekend took us to the wild and wonderful state of West Virginia and the Tomahawk MX Facility for Round #2 of the MAMA MX Series as well as Round #3 of the WMX Womens Pro Motocross Series.

The Benson family led a Memorial Lap in honor of recently departed Ruth Ann Benson. Close to $600 was raised in her memory and will be donated to Coastal Hospice, one of her charities. If you would like to make a donation please send to them in her name to.
Friday the 13th brought the first nice day of spring to the mountains of central Pennsylvania. On Saturday the weather stuck with us as we met up for our first ride of the month with the CMATVA.
The Central Mountains ATV Association (CMATVA.org) is a 1500 member strong group based out of Lock Haven, Pa that rides as a group twice every month no matter what mother nature throws at us. On this day in April, 35 machines would gather at the Rock Run Recreation Area in Patton, Pa and spend six hours navigating the muddy and rocky terrain that this park has become known for.

This weekends adventure started for us on Friday as we arrived at the Blue Knob State Park about an hour south of the riding area. Rock Run does offer camping but we elected to stay at the park due to its vicinity to our sponsoring dealer for this ride, Five Star Powersports in Duncansville, Pa.
For those of you that haven't been following along on our outdoor riding adventures, each time we ride we have a sponsoring dealer put us in a machine to review for you all. This gives us the opportunity to experience different machines and hopefully share some insights for when you're looking to make your next purchase.
Although we've ridden some very nice machines to date, we've been itching to get a shot at this new release from Yamaha, the Wolverine X4. I spent some time in the Wolverine R Spec after its release a few years ago riding at the AOAA so I had high hopes for this new rec/utility machine from Yamaha.
We picked up our loaner from Five Star on Friday evening then headed back to the campground to get a good nights rest before our ride. Let me tell you, if your looking for a new machine, you may want to give these guys a call. They are a Yamaha, Suzuki, Polaris and KTM dealer and boy do they have the inventory. Not only do they have just about any machine you could imagine, I hear they have great prices too. Plus they sell this kick butt machine I'm about to tell you about which is definitely worth a look no matter what your riding style.
To be honest I wasn't sure quite what to expect from this new 4 - seater from Yamaha. I have always been a fan of the brand and I new the R Spec was a sweet machine, but here we had a different animal. I can tell you this before we get into too many details, My wife said repeatedly on our 30 mile journey, "I think this is the one, I think this is the one".
And if there's anything I can share with you after working in this industry for 35 years and being married for close to 30, Happy Wife - Happy Life. Plus this machine rocked, usually the girls like those comfortable, safe type machines, lol - this might be the one guys. It offers all that plus this baby goes and its assembled in the good ole USA.
I could go on and on about the numerous features this machine has to offer. From the great handling to the smooth ride, every X4 comes equipped with Yamaha's famous EPS (electronic power steering) and front adjustable gas charged shocks with automatic rear leveling suspension.
Yamaha equips their machines with full underbelly metal skid plates for riding in the rocky and rough terrain and this beast offers optimal ground clearance with standard 26" aggressive tires to get the job done.
I could talk about the bucket seats that hold you in place with full driver adjust ability along with tilt steering and easy to reach controls. I could talk about how the machine will comfortably haul 4 adults and how the back seats offer better passenger view of the trail or easily fold up to offer a full cargo bed to haul all your stuff.
How about the shorter wheelbase for a vehicle with this people moving ability and its under 60 inch width to navigate the toughest of trails. Oh did I mention that new 850 parallel liquid cooled twin engine with adjustable speed control? This baby has power to spare plus one of the first things we noticed was its smooth and quiet operation. My wife and I were actually able to hold a normal conversation no matter what speed we were traveling, something that many machines lack.

We had another great ride with our friends from the Central Mountain ATV Association. If you're always looking for somewhere to ride or someone to ride with, you may want to consider checking this group out. Membership fee's are minimal and they ride twice a month, every month.
Its nothing like making new friends and riding new trails, plus there is safety in numbers.
